Work has been taking place on Baseline Rd for a sewer replacement project.
Beginning Monday evening, May 9, Baseline Road will reopen to traffic between 55th Street and Cherryvale Road. Eastbound traffic between Foothills Parkway and 55th Street will continue to use one of the westbound lanes to allow for ongoing sanitary sewer installation work. Manhattan Drive will remain open except for a two-to-three-day period while the project crosses the intersection, currently expected to begin Friday, May 13. During the crossing, the southern side of the intersection will be closed and traffic can use 55th Street or South Boulder Road to access neighborhoods.
Sidewalks on the south side of Baseline will remain closed for safety. Bikes can detour around the project area using the multi-use path west of Foothills and Pennsylvania Avenue. Information on detours and delays for RTD Route 225 transit service can be found here.
The work is part of a project to improve the city’s wastewater collection system capacity to reduce back-ups like those seen during the September 2013 flood and ensure utility customers are served in their wastewater needs for years to come. The project includes replacing 7,300 linear feet of aging and undersized sanitary sewer piping in the areas of Baseline Road and Thunderbird Court. Construction began on Baseline Road in January 2022 and is expected to be completed this summer. To date, crews have installed 6,400 feet of sewer piping and are working on-site restoration and paving the installed sections.
Throughout this project, community members should expect to experience traffic impacts along Baseline Road and Thunderbird Drive. Please check the city's Cone Zones for current traffic impacts. Message boards will be placed along impacted routes prior to any roadway closures.
Some utility customers will experience brief sewer service outages to allow construction crews to connect homes to the new sewer line. All impacted customers will receive notification prior to any planned service interruptions.
