In observance of the winter holidays, the City of Boulder is adjusting its operations schedules.
Boulder Fire-Rescue (BFR) responded to a structure fire this morning to the Magwood Apartments at 2880 Kalmia Ave. The call originated at 4:53 a.m. Upon arrival to the scene, firefighters reported an active fire, began an initial fire attack, and ensured evacuations of residents. Boulder Police Department (BPD) was integral in ensuring a quick and safe evacuation of all residents.
Initial reports indicate that the fire began in the upper part of the building and spread along and through the attic, traveling above the sprinkler system.. Firefighters will remain on scene to address hot spots and continue to support the investigation. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Additional information will be released when available.
Twenty-four units suffered significant fire and water damage. There are currently no reported injuries, and 24 families are currently displaced. The Red Cross is currently assisting members of the community who have been affected. Displaced residents needing more information can contact the Red Cross at 1-800-417-0495.
At least 15 Boulder Fire-Rescue and Mutual Aid firefighting units, as well as Boulder Police, were on scene for the fire. We would like to thank our local mutual aid agencies who have been helping us on this fire and ensuring the city of Boulder had additional coverage while we worked on this fire.
