Every year Boulder Parks and Recreation (BPR) closes each of its recreation centers for one week to complete a deep cleaning, make short-term maintenance and/or install new equipment. This year, BPR is switching the timing of the annual shutdowns scheduled for East Boulder Community Center (EBCC) and South Boulder Recreation Center (SBRC) to allow the city to complete a larger scope of repairs at SBRC.
The annual shutdown at EBCC will happen March 22-30 and SBRC will have its annual shutdown in late August.
Some of the work that will happen at SBRC includes work on pool fans, the HVAC system, and other facility repairs informed by the recent recreation center facility needs assessment report.
“This work will support our ability to keep South operating as long as we can while we plan for what’s next for recreation in South Boulder through the Future of Recreation Centers project and the city’s Long-Term Financial Strategy,” said BPR Director Ali Rhodes.
To minimize impacts of the EBCC closure, adjustments to schedules include:
- Spring break camp will take place at North Boulder Recreation Center (NBRC)
- Gym and fitness programming will be moved, when possible, to SBRC
- Additional swim times will be made available at NBRC and SBRC
The East Age Well Center will be closed on Monday, March 24 but will be open the rest of the week. Older Adult Services programming that was scheduled for March 24 will be rescheduled for another day.
Any additional updates will be posted on BPR’s website.
