Boulder Police Oversight Panel seeks local non-profits to serve on member selection committee
The City of Boulder’s Police Oversight Panel (“Panel“) is accepting applications for new panel members. Established in 2020, Boulder’s Police Oversight Panel reviews complaint investigation files and makes disciplinary, policy, and training recommendations to the Boulder Police Department. To identify new members, the panel is forming a Selection Committee that will be composed of current members as well as representatives from two local non-profit organizations.
The panel invites any local non-profit organization that serves the Boulder community to contact the panel co-chairs by Sept. 4 to indicate your organization’s interest in participating in the Selection Committee.
Service on the Selection Committee will require a significant time investment and involve reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and participating in deliberations on the selection of new panel members. Each organization will be asked to identify one representative to serve on the committee throughout the review process. The final two organizations will be selected by vote at the Sept. 8 panel meeting. Review of new panel member applications will be scheduled from Oct. 17-Nov. 11, 2022, with deliberations and selections complete by Nov. 18, 2022. The Selection Committee will determine whether meetings will occur in person and/or virtually and timing of meetings, to fit the needs of members.
The panel is committed to independently analyzing and evaluating community complaints to assist in providing equitable outcomes and restoring community trust. Diverse representation of the Boulder community is the cornerstone of the panel’s work, bringing historically marginalized voices to the forefront in police oversight.
