Cigna annually recognizes organizations that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to employee wellness.
The City of Boulder is proud to announce it has once again achieved the Gold level in Cigna’s 2024 Healthy Workforce Designation. The top-level designation recognizes the city’s continued commitment to employee well-being through its Well-Being@Work program.
Cigna, the city’s medical insurance provider, annually evaluates the employee well-being programs of organizations nationwide and recognizes the top programs through its Healthy Workforce Designation. Gold is the highest level that can be achieved.
The 2024 evaluation considered factors like leadership support, workplace culture and program offerings. The City of Boulder stood out for its holistic approach that aims to address eight pillars of well-being: emotional, physical, occupational, social, spiritual, intellectual, financial and environmental.
The 2024 Gold designation recognizes significant enhancements made last year to the Well-Being@Work program, including:
- An on-site therapy program where employees can receive up to four confidential therapy sessions per year, free of charge. The program has two therapists on retainer, including a bilingual therapist for Spanish-speaking employees.
- An employer-paid recreation pass that grants employees access to all three recreation centers, Scott Carpenter and Spruce Pools, and the Boulder Reservoir. The pass is available for staff across all employee groups, including temporary and seasonal staff.
- Lunch-and-learns, workshops and webinars covering a variety of topics such as retirement, caregiving, resilience, movement and mindfulness.
- Opportunities for staff to earn monetary rewards through the Wellable platform and a monthly credit towards their health insurance premiums for participating in certain well-being activities, including biometric screenings.
- Specialized programs like Homethrive for caregiving assistance and Omada for personalized health coaching.
The city’s ongoing efforts ensure employees have access to tools that support their personal well-being while enhancing organizational culture and productivity. Looking ahead, the City of Boulder remains dedicated to evolving its well-being initiatives, using employee feedback and data to continuously improve support programs.
“We’re incredibly proud to receive this designation from Cigna, and it’s a testament to the dedication of our employees who engage with these programs while helping shape our well-being initiatives,” said Erik Chaparro-Gutierrez, well-being program lead. “This recognition motivates us to continue enhancing our offerings, ensuring every employee has the support they need to thrive.”
