In May of each year, the city evaluates its water supply to determine whether customer water use restrictions should be imposed under the city’s Drought Plan. These evaluations are primarily based on snowpack levels in the mountains west of Boulder, the city’s reservoir storage levels and the city’s allocation of water from Northern Water’s Colorado-Big Thompson Project (CBT).

As of May 1, 2024, the city’s key water supply factors are all within normal ranges. These include the water content in the Silver Lake Watershed snowpack, the city’s CBT allocation and city reservoir storage levels. Although water restrictions are not necessary at this time or anticipated for this summer, staff will continue to closely monitor conditions and may recommend additional measures if needed.

Water conservation is one of the primary strategies for managing supply variability. The city emphasizes efficient water use through its Water Conservation Program. Utilities staff updated the Water Efficiency Plan in January 2024, which guides implementation of the Water Conservation Program. To support the continued wise use of water, the city will share ongoing water conservation outreach efforts throughout the year, including a turf replacement pilot project, utility bill inserts and social media posts.

The City of Boulder's Independent Police Monitor, along with the Boulder Police and Fire-Rescue departments, will partner with the Center for People With Disabilities (CPWD) to host a listening session for people with disabilities about their public safety experiences and concerns. The purpose of this session is to hear directly from community members living with disabilities about their interactions with first responders. Feedback will be incorporated into policies, methods, and training to give first responders the tools they need to provide assistance in the most respectful and inclusive way possible.

The listening session will take place on Saturday, May 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at CPWD, located at 1675 Range St. in Boulder. To ensure the voices of people who experience disabilities remain centered CPWD will send invitations to people within their network. This event is invitation only.
