Complete the following steps by Aug. 28 to have your name certified to appear on the November ballot
Community members are encouraged to consider running for Boulder Mayor or City Council in the Nov. 7 election. There is one seat for Mayor and four seats for City Council up for election this year.
Candidates may start their candidate petition process 91 through 71 days before the election, August 8th - August 28th 2023.
1) Review qualifications to run for Boulder Mayor or City Council
- Be a citizen of the U.S.
- Be 21-years of age or older
- Have resided in the City of Boulder for one year immediately prior to the date of the election
- Have not been elected to three or more terms as a city council member
- Be a qualified elector as defined by the laws of the State of Colorado
2) Fill out paperwork and take the oath
Schedule an appointment with the City Clerk's Office to fill out initial paperwork with the election administrator and get your voter registration information verified by emailing cityclerksoffice@bouldercolorado.gov.
The office is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Thursday. The election administrator will create your nomination petition during your appointment. You will then take an oath and sign your paperwork. The entire process typically takes about 15 minutes.
3) Gather signatures
Your nomination petition form is now ready for signing. Each candidate needs 25, no more than 35, registered electors to sign the form to be certified to appear on the November ballot. Signatures must be received by Aug. 28 at 5 p.m.
The petition remains at the City Clerk’s Office at all times and petition signers must come to the office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday to sign petitions.
