A collection of resources from municipalities in the northwestern region for the TIGER grant application to fund railroad crossing safety improvements.
The US 36 Mayors & Commissioners Coalition, Commuting Solutions, cities of Boulder, Longmont, Louisville, City & County of Broomfield, and Boulder County are partnering to bring safety improvements to at-grade railroad crossings throughout the Northwest corridor of the BNSF Railway. Communities throughout the region grew up around the railroad tracks, and as the train horn noise levels have increased over the years, many residents and businesses find the noise creates unlivable conditions. The safety improvements will eliminate the requirement for train horn use at crossings, thereby addressing long-standing safety, economic, environmental and social concerns.
The corridor communities are jointly requesting federal funding from the US Department of Transportation’s “Transportation Investment to Generate Economic Recovery” (TIGER) program to close the gap in funding needed to complete the remaining safety improvements along the 30 mile corridor.
