City invites community members to participate in art show inspired by city open space
The City of Boulder invites community members to submit artwork for its summer “Art Inspired by the Land” exhibition, a summer art show that showcases art inspired by the city’s diverse Open Space and Mountain Parks.
These past few years have been challenging for all – with shared open space providing an important place for community members to seek emotional and physical support. For the upcoming “Art Inspired by the Land” exhibition, the city seeks artwork that celebrates community members’ connection to our shared open space. Learn more about this community program and submit work.
How have open space lands helped you heal over the past couple of years? Consider submitting artwork to share how nature has inspired you!
“Art Inspired by the Land” pieces will be displayed in the Canyon Gallery at the Main Boulder Public Library from Friday, Aug. 5, to Sunday, Sept. 18. All artwork submitted for the upcoming show must be inspired by City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) natural areas. To see OSMP-managed trails and lands, refer to the department’s online maps at OSMPTrails.org.
Submitted art must be display ready and can include photography, painting, drawing, pastel, sculpture, textile, and short written pieces and poetry. Each person is allowed to submit up to three entries for consideration. Artists can be of any age and level – amateur to professional. Submissions will be considered based on quality, location and type of media, in relation to other selected pieces.
Artists must attach electronic pictures of their artwork and only submit one art piece per entry. If artists want to submit more than one piece, they need to send them as separate entries. The deadline for submissions is Sunday, June 12. Early entries are encouraged. Please contact Juanita Echeverri, an OSMP education and outreach coordinator, at 303-413-7616 or echeverrij@bouldercolorado.gov for more information.
Selected artwork will need to be dropped off in the Canyon Gallery at the Main Boulder Public Library on Monday, Aug. 1, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Artwork needs to be picked up at the library on Monday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you are not able to personally drop off/pick up your piece during these times, you will need to find someone to do this for you. Art cannot be stored after the deadline, and early drop-off/pick-up is not possible.
