A youth took out a gun during a fight this afternoon at the Circle K near Boulder High School on Canyon Boulevard. No shots were fired and nobody was seriously injured. The suspect was arrested and taken into juvenile detention. Police are still looking for the gun.

BOULDER, Colo. —  Just after 12 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, four to five teenagers got into an altercation at the Circle K near 14th Street and Canyon Boulevard. Fortunately, nobody was seriously injured. One juvenile was arrested on three counts of felony menacing and one count of assault with a deadly weapon and taken into custody at juvenile detention.

Many Boulder High School students were in the area as it was lunchtime, and they were gathered around nearby food trucks. The fight escalated when one of the youth in the fight pulled out a gun. A person who was getting gas at the time called 911 and reported the fight and the gun. Police responded quickly to the scene, as well as BVSD security personnel.

Allegedly, the youth with the gun hit another young person in the head while he had the gun in his hand. In the chaos of the skirmish, the gun was removed from the scene. Police K9 units were deployed to search for the gun, but to no avail. It is possible that somebody ran off with it after the altercation. It is not known at this time whether the gun was real or a replica; video footage of the incident indicates it could be either.

If anyone has additional information about this altercation or the whereabouts of the gun, please contact Detective Erin Starks at 303-441-3067. Safe2Tell is also an option for anonymous reporting.

As in every criminal case, these charges are an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
