Valerie Watson

Interim Director of Transportation & Mobility

Valerie Watson is the Interim Director of the Transportation and Mobility Department with the City of Boulder. With expertise in transportation, community planning, and urban design, Valerie is a dedicated leader in public sector organizational management and operations, external affairs, policy development, and project delivery. She champions safe, connected transportation choices and sustainable, equitable mobility for all.

Valerie joined the City of Boulder in 2021 as the Transportation Planning Division Manager and was promoted to the role of Deputy Director in 2023. Prior to joining the city, she was an urban design consultant in Southern California for eight years. She then devoted over nine years to public service with the City of Los Angeles Departments of Transportation (LADOT) and City Planning.

Valerie holds a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of California, Irvine with an emphasis in urban design and behavior.
