Trailhead Description

Foothills Trailhead is just north of Boulder off Highway 36. Visitors can access the Foothills Trail and Hogback Ridge via the Foothills Trail underpass at Highway 36. The Eagle, Degge and other Boulder Valley Ranch trails are also accessible a short ways up North Broadway St.

Transportation

Leave Boulder on Highway 36 heading north. The trailhead parking lot is immediately north of the edge of town a few hundred feet, and is visible from the highway next to the cement plant, accessible by a dirt road.

Bike Regulations

Bicycles are allowed on the Foothills, Eagle and Sage Trails. Bicycles may be ridden only on those trails that are posted with the international bicycle symbol.

E-Bikes

Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes are allowed on the Eagle, Sage, North Rim, and Left Hand Trails in the Boulder Valley Ranch area; they are not allowed on Foothills North Trail. Learn more in the Guide to Electric Bikes on Open Space.

Dog Regulations

Foothills Area Dog Regulations Map

Learn about bringing your dog to OSMP. Dogs must be on a hand-held leash at all times unless they meet the voice and sight control standard and display a City of Boulder Voice and Sight tag. Dog excrement removal is required by law. A dog station is available to aid in the collection of dog excrement.

Horse Regulations

Horses are allowed on most trails. On-trail riding is encouraged to protect rare plants and wildlife habitat. Learn more about riding your horse on OSMP.

Wildlife

Many raptor species may be observed including eagles, northern harriers, red-tailed hawks. Mule deer and coyotes are frequently sighted. Many snakes can be found in this area including rattlesnakes and bull snakes. For your own safety, please stay on designated trails.
