Path will support walking and biking connections between Boulder and Gunbarrel

The City of Boulder will build a new multi-use path near Valmont Road to provide an off-street connection from 61st Street to the existing pedestrian bridge and multi-use path at South Boulder Creek. The city anticipates work to start on Monday, Jan. 6, and end this summer, pending weather.

Nearby roads and paths will remain open. Construction is being coordinated with unrelated work in the area to minimize travel impacts, including sewer improvements and Boulder County traffic signal and streetlight work. View construction impacts on Cone Zones.

The project includes a 10-foot-wide concrete path, signage, signals and markings, crossings over a ditch and existing railroad track, and a crosswalk on the east side of the Valmont Road and Butte Mill intersection to connect the path to on-street bike lanes on 63rd Street. The Valmont Road multi-use path is one of several key missing links for people walking, biking and rolling between Gunbarrel and Boulder. Identified in the 1980s, these Confluence Area Multi-Use Paths will provide improved multimodal connections for Boulder community members, supporting the city’s transportation goals to be safe, equitable and reliable, provide travel choices, and support clean air and the city’s climate commitment. This city project is being completed in partnership with Boulder County and the Regional Transportation District.
