Normal airport operations to continue while city searches for permanent airport manager
The City of Boulder has hired David Ruppel, a consultant with Aviation Management Consulting Group, as the interim Boulder Municipal Airport manager. Ruppel will direct normal airport operations beginning this week while the city continues a national search for the next airport manager.
Ruppel’s 15 years in airport management include leading other airports as the director at three airports, and as interim director at three different airports, including experience local to Colorado and with a range of airport types, including General Aviation, Military and Commercial airports. He brings a diverse background in operational leadership, business development, airport management, financial management, spaceport development and community relations. Additionally, he was a career Naval Aviator and brings a lifelong love of aviation to this role.
“With an active aviation community in Boulder, our staff has worked hard to ensure smooth airport operations during this transition,” said City Manager Nuria Rivera-Vandermyde. “Dave’s expertise will help us continue the specialized work of running an airport responsibly and safely while we continue searching for a long-term airport manager.”
Contracting airport management work is typical in times of transition to ensure smooth operations due to the technical knowledge required to direct an airport. In the meantime, city staff has also successfully continued planned operational work, including primary ramp pavement remediation and related measures to ensure winter weather resilience as the snow season begins.
Boulder Municipal Airport is a general aviation airport, providing business, private and recreational aviation services to the city and surrounding communities. Learn more about the airport at Boulder Airport’s Story. General information is also available on the airport webpage and airport FAQs.
