The City of Boulder has launched an online questionnaire to collect community member feedback on transportation safety conditions on Baseline Road. The feedback will be used to help inform plans for the Baseline Road Transportation Safety Project, which will make multimodal transportation improvements to Baseline Road from 30th Street to Foothills Parkway beginning in Fall 2022 through 2025. This section of Baseline is one of three corridors prioritized for improvements as part of the city’s Core Arterial Network (CAN) initiative to improve safety on arterial streets.
The questionnaire is available on Be Heard Boulder and is open through Sept. 15, 2022.
In addition to the questionnaire, community members can join these upcoming public events to share feedback and learn more about the project:
-
Aug. 27: Back to School Safety Fair at Meadows Library (Please register to attend to reserve a free bike helmet)
-
Sept. 13: Boulder Walks Walking Tour of East End of Project Area
-
Sept. 20: Boulder Walks Walking Tour of West End of Project Area
-
Sept: 27: Biking Tour of Project Area Co-Led by Community Cycles
-

Details for the events can be found at bouldercolorado.gov/events. City staff will also provide an update on the project to the Transportation Advisory Board at their Nov. 14 meeting.
The Baseline Road Transportation Safety Project will improve safety for all modes of travel on Baseline Road from 30th Street to Foothills Parkway through enhancements such as pavement resurfacing, bike lane upgrades, sidewalk repair and transit facilities improvements.
“We’re excited to kick off this project on Baseline as part of our Core Arterial Network initiative,” said Interim Transportation & Mobility Director Natalie Stiffler. “Many people live, work, recreate and access services in this area, and these improvements will help make this a more comfortable and people-friendly corridor, no matter how you choose to travel.”
Baseline Road from 30th Street to Foothills Parkway is home to many key community destinations, including grocery stores, senior living, apartments, shops and the University of Colorado Boulder Williams Village housing. It was also identified as one of the top crash locations in Boulder for vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and bicyclists, in the city’s most recent Safe Streets Report. As a result, Baseline was prioritized for improvements as part of the city’s Core Arterial Network initiative, which was launched earlier this year to expedite improvements on Boulder’s high-traffic arterial streets, where most severe crashes are happening.
The Baseline Road Transportation Safety Project improvements will be implemented in two phases, with Phase 1 kicking off in Fall 2022 with pavement resurfacing, curb ramp enhancements and upgrades to make the existing buffered bike lane a protected, separated bike lane. Phase 2 will begin in 2023 and would include crossing enhancements, reconfiguration of travel lanes, transit upgrades and protected intersection treatments, dependent on a pending funding application submitted in June 2022 for the FY2022-2025 Call for Projects Round #2 of the Denver Regional Council of Governments’ Transportation Improvements Program (TIP).
