City Kicks Off Project to Manage the Curb in Commercial Districts

The Curbside Management project will create a new plan for managing curbside space in a way that meets the needs of everyone who uses our streets and achieves our community goals for transportation access and parking management. Curb space is important because it provides the most direct access to offices, stores, and residences in our busy commercial districts. The city’s goal is to manage the curb so that it is accessible, safe and easy to use for all visitors, residents and employees. The project will be completed in early 2023.

Because curb space is limited, and uses and technologies are changing, the City of Boulder aims to have a consistent, strategic approach to managing the curb. This new approach will balance well-established curbside uses like on-street parking, delivery zones, transit stops and bike parking with space for newer mobility technologies like rideshare services and dockless bikeshare, while also considering innovative public space uses like parklets and food trucks. This new approach will be delivered in the form of a guidebook detailing new curbside management policies and a plan to implement, maintain, and evaluate new uses of the space.
