The trees are being removed to make way for a future sidewalk
On Tuesday, Jan. 18, Pearl Parkway from 48th Court to 49th Street will be reduced to one lane of travel to allow crews to remove 7-8 trees needed for a future sidewalk installation. The trees being removed are all dead and/or diseased with Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), an invasive wood-boring beetle prevalent across the U.S.
The work will require a single-lane closure in the westbound, right through lane starting just east of 49th Street and continuing to 48th Court, for one day only. Work hours will be between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Pedestrians will continue to cross Pearl Parkway to use the sidewalk on the south side of the street. The RTD bus stop at the northwest corner of 49th Street and Pearl Parkway will remain open and no side street parking will be impacted.
The trees are being removed to create space for the future installation of a sidewalk along the northern right-of-way of Pearl Parkway between 48th Court and 49th Street. The project is part of the city’s Missing Sidewalk Links program and will connect pedestrians to existing sidewalks at the east end of Pearl Parkway at 49th Street and the west end at 48th Court and a transit stop at 49th Street.
The city recognizes the importance of trees for providing aesthetic and environmental benefits. The removed trees may be replaced depending on the availability of right-of-way space after the sidewalk installation and whether a water source is available.
