BOULDER, Colo. – The City of Boulder has launched community engagement to identify ways to improve transportation on Iris Avenue between Broadway and 28th Street. Community members are invited to provide input via an online questionnaire, open through Aug. 17. Additional input opportunities will be available through 2023 and in 2024.
The Iris Avenue project will develop and consider a range of alternatives for ways that the street between Broadway and 28th Street could be safer, more connected and more comfortable for all travelers. In addition to the questionnaire, community members can join these upcoming events to share feedback and learn more:
— Sept. 16: Fall Transportation Safety Fair
Additional community engagement opportunities will include bike and walk tours, with dates to be announced on the project webpage and the Transportation & Mobility Department monthly e-newsletter.
From 2023-2024, the project team will focus on listening to the community and collecting transportation data. Following the analysis of this data and community input, alternatives development will begin in 2024. Thereafter, the project will follow a Community Environmental Assessment Process (CEAP) to ensure the recommended alternative for Iris Avenue is consistent with overarching community goals in the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan. City Council will review recommendations. If approved, next steps will include final design and implementation.
This segment of Iris Avenue provides access to important local and regional destinations as well as connections to businesses and is one of three priority corridors on the Core Arterial Network (CAN). Learn more about the project on the Iris Avenue Transportation Improvements Project webpage.
