To maintain a healthy and diverse urban forest, the City of Boulder’s Parks and Recreation Department’s Forestry Team will be performing necessary tree pruning, hazardous tree removal, and ash tree removal along Boulder Creek Path next to Boulder High School. The path will be closed from Wednesday, Oct. 12 through Wednesday, Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Boulder Creek Path will be closed between 17th Street and the Arapahoe underpass near Arapahoe Ave. and 13th Street. The path will be open each day before and after tree work is being done.

Detours and signage will be in place for pedestrians and cyclists, who should take 17th Street and/or Arapahoe Ave. around the tree work.

This tree work includes the pruning of various trees and the removal of ash trees impacted by the Emerald Ash Borer beetle (EAB). EAB, an invasive wood-boring beetle, attacks all North American ash trees not protected by pesticides. Now present in 35 other states, EAB has killed hundreds of millions of ash trees over the past two decades.

Forestry staff manage approximately 51,000 public trees in city parks and street rights-of-way. They are committed to maintaining a healthy and safe urban forest as well as preserving an extensive and diverse tree cover for future generations.
